ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY MAP OF SOUTH AMERICA. Eight folio sheets each approximately 575 x 875 mm., making a large wall map c.2180 x 1745 mm., in full early wash colour, bound into a recent large half red calf folio (630 x 495 mm.), with marbled paper boards, with red calf gilt title label affixed to upper board, spine with gilt ruled bands and titles, retaining original endpapers, first blank endpaper with tear repaired, 5 very small tears in margins away from the plate marks repaired, small area of margin loss only to title sheet, otherwise in excellent condition.

ONLY THE SECOND KNOWN EXAMPLE OF A PROOF STATE OF AN OUTSTANDING WALL MAP OF SOUTH AMERICA, IN FULL EARLY WASH COLOUR ISSUED JUST BEFORE THE YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE. Eight sheets, 615 x 850 mm. each, joined in pairs, making up a map approximately 2460 x 1700 mm., in full contemporary wash colour, laid on green marbled paper, edged in green silk, dissected 1822 R. H. Laurie map of South America affixed to each section illustrating area covered, some fold support, otherwise in excellent condition. All housed in a contemporary half calf clam shell book case, marbled paper boards, with original silk tie to lift the maps, in good condition.
