The maps for Samuel Lewis’ ‘Topographical Dictionary’ are often known as Creighton-Walker’s. Both R. Creighton and John and Charles Walker were engravers, little is known about the former. These maps were produced to accompany a series of topographical works by Samuel Lewis about whom we also know little. We know of him as a cartographer and publisher who flourished in the 1830s. The maps were also put together as a separate atlas. There were later editions in 1842, 1844, 1845, 1848 and 1849. Beresiner (1983) pp. 144-148; Carroll (1996) 93; refer Chubb (1927) 434. Provenance: private English collection.
