The first edition of Jefferys great map of the county of Yorkshire. The survey was undertaken by J. Ainslie, T. Donald and J. Hodskinson between 1767 and 1770. It is published on a scale of one inch to the mile by Thomas Jefferys who sadly did not live to see it made available. Of the ten large scale maps of English counties he was behind the one of Yorkshire is considered his greatest. It contains a general map, a fine double page engraved title and fine plans of Sheffield, Leeds, Ripon, Kingston-upon-Hull and Scarborough mostly drawn to the great scale of 132 yards to the inch. Rawnsley 27; Rodger (1972) 536, Whitaker 240.
