A desirable detailed map derived from John Arrowsmith’s famous earlier work. The map is from Dr. Karl Sohr’s “Hand-Atlas” published 1846 by Carl Flemming. The name Sohr was fictitious and used to conceal the youth of Friedrich H. Handtke and lack of reputation. Flemming founded a successful publishing firm in the German town of Glogau. There were at the time of publication large numbers of German’s emigrating to the United States with Texas in particular receiving a large portion. During its Independence from 1836-45 over 10,000 chose to settle within its borders. With an inset of Galveston Bay lower left.
