An early road map pre-dating those of John Ogilby. These contain a triangular table of distances for each county and a map of the county in the lower corner. They were first published in 1635 for Matthew Simmons’ extremely rare ‘Direction for the English Traviller’. In 1643 Thomas Jenner published the work again having enlarged the ‘thumb nail’ maps as the ‘English Traviller’. In 1649 he utilised the plates in ‘A Book of the Names of all the Parishes’ which survives in just two known examples. A further edition in 1657 placed the text below the maps on a larger leaf. Skelton 62.
