Pieter Goos (c.1615-75) was one of the most significant booksellers in Amsterdam during the second half of the seventeenth century. The son of mapmaker Abraham Goos, he was also an accomplished engraver as well as bookseller. “His first pilot book was the Zee-Spiegel, 1650, covering largely European waters. The Zee Atlas covered the whole world. They were all well produced and sold as much to the merchant, as the sea-going pilot.” (Burden). Provenance: Richard B. Arkway Inc. 2001; Juan and Peggy Rada Collection. Refer Burden (1996) 386; Koeman (1967-70) IV Goos 1B no.38; Martinic (1999) p. 209, no. 18 & p. 213, no. 21; ‘The A. E. Nordenskiöld Collection’ (1979) no. 80; Phillips (1909-) nos. 473, 474 & 3435.
