Thomas Daniell (1749-1840) and William Daniell’s (1769-1837) most celebrated work was the monumental ‘Oriental Scenery’ published in large folio between 1795 and 1808. A superb series of large original coloured aquatint plates recording their travels in India. This is an example of the reduced quarto issue in its first edition published 1812 to 1816. It was prepared under the supervision of the Daniell’s, its intention being to make the images more widely available to the general public, especially as the original folio was priced at 200 guineas! Abbey Travel 432; Archer p. 35; Sutton 13.
