This map was published by Samuel Augustus Mitchell’s ‘New General Atlas’ first issued in 1860. There is evidence to suggest that Mitchell wasn’t in fact either a cartographer or engraver, his role is more that of an editor. The chief cartographer and engraver of Mitchell’s publications is James H Young. The map did not appear in the first edition and was a later addition to the atlas.
