An extremely ornate table of contents page from Pierre Mortier’s (1661-1711) ‘Atlas Nouveau’ first issued about 1696. The wreathed title is flanked by allegorical figures. either side of the table are Hercules holding aloft the earth and a female figure with library shelves behind. Running the length of the bottom is a further library scene with a group consulting a globe and various books. Koeman (1967-70) Mor 1.
