A large scale map of the island of Lanai in Hawaii lithographed by Julius Bien after the work of the surveyor general W. D. Alexander. The actual survey work was that of J. F. Brown and M. D. Monsarrat. It was prepared for the ‘Report of the Governor of the Territory of Hawaii to the Secretary of the Interior’. Interestingly the map was surveyed in 1878 at the time of the Hawaiian Monarchy and was only published after the chain was annexed by the United States in 1898. The Crown lands are coloured in yellow with those of the Government in green. Rumsey 3705.004 (1906 edition).
