The map is from the extremely rare ‘The Agreeable Historian’ published by Samuel Simpson. Little is known about Simpson including his identity. The text of the work issued in parts is very similar to that of the ‘English Traveller’ whose first part was only issued nine days before that of this work. It has led Hodson so suspect that the same writer may have been behind both works. The Simpson is however considerably rarer. The whole was finally issued in three volumes and unlike the ‘English Traveller’ was never issued again. It was printed by Robert Walker a successful man whose business extended from London to Cambridge where he printed the first newspaper in the town. Hodson 204.
