A general map of the American continent by L’Abbé Jean- Baptiste Louis Clouet (1730-c.90). He was a geographer at the Academie Royale des Sciences de Rouen. He wrote several works on geography. His most famous atlas is however the ‘Geographie Moderne’ first issued in 1767. The map bears engraved text describing the coastal features of the continent in the side panels including islands, Capes, and harbours. There were later editions in 1780, 1787, 1791 and 1793. The Library of Congress possess examples of three editions, the British Library do not have any. Provenance: private collection of Juan and Peggy Rada. Phillips (1909-) 661, 673 & 3519; not in Shirley (2004) ‘Atlases in the British Library’.
