John Slezer was a native of Holland who settled in Scotland in 1669. He was an artillery officer who had the desire to record the towns and great buildings of Scotland. He published the ‘Theatrum Scotiae, containing the Prospects of their Majesties Castles and Palaces’ in 1693. Lowndes 2413; Wing S-3993.
