Christoph Keller (1638-1707), to use his colloquial name, was a geographer and professor at Halle University, Germany. His first significant work was the ‘Notitia Orbis Antiqui’ first published in Leipzig in two volumes, 1701-06. A later edition of 1731-32 contained a virtually identical map of the British Isles which Shirley believed was the same plate. It has now been determined to be a new one. Provenance: Doreen Green 2001; private English collection. Nordenskiold Collection (1979) 42, no. 5; not in Shirley (1988); Shirley (2004) T.Cell 1b.
