The separately volume of the illustrations to Edward Baines’ ‘History … of the County Palatine of Lancaster’. The two volume work never contained these plates, they were issued thus in a separate volume. It contains a fine large folding map of the county by William Wales with attractive vignette of Liverpool. The key includes a line indicating the ‘great Coal Field of Lancashire’. A similar sized plan of Liverpool by Neele & Son. The two tables of the distances of the principal towns of England and the ‘Population Returns of England’ drawn from the 1821 census. There are single sheet town plans of Preston, Lancaster, Ashton under Lime, Stockport, Bolton, Blackburn, Rochdale and Oldham, and a large folding plan of Manchester. The folding general map of England and Wales is by William Swire, of Leeds. Provenance: Bow Windows Bookshop; private English collection; Clive A. Burden Ltd. Catalogue IX (2012) item 38; private English collection. Tooley’s Dictionary (1999-2004); Whitaker (1938) 382.
