This map of England and Wales engraved by William Hole (fl.1601-24) is derived from that of Gerard Mercator (1512-94) published in 1595. This is from the first fully illustrated edition of Camden’s great work ‘Britannia’. There were three editions in 1607, 1610 and 1637, this example being from the last. Provenance: acquired from Doreen Green 1991; private English collection. Shirley (1991) no. 280; Skelton 5.
