Gerard Mercator’s regional map of England including the counties of Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and inland Rutland, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire. The preferred first state with the more ornate title cartouche, stippled north sea and Mercator’s imprint lower right. Along with French text to the verso and the pagination we can determine this is from the 1609 French edition published just two years after the first. As such this example is a nice dark impression. Provenance: Doreen Green 1997. Deadman & Brooks (2015) p. 320; Koeman (1967-70) II ME 12 p. 292 no. 94; Van der Krogt, P. (1997, Atlantes) 5113:1.1.
