This series of plates was first issued in the ‘Atlas Minor’ of 1607 by Jodocus Hondius. Sometime after 1621 they were acquired by publishers in London. The text of the atlas was translated by Wye Saltonstall and the ‘Historia Mundi’ was published by Michael Sparke. The format was slightly larger than the continental publications and the maps are set within the text. This map of Wales is derived from the Christopher Saxton general map of England and Wales first issued in 1589. Provenance: acquired 1997 for a private English collection. Not in Booth (1977); not in Evans (1964); Roberts (1994) [6]; Shirley (2004) T.Hon 1e.
