A detailed plan of the present day city of Kyoto (Jedo) in Japan. In the centre of the city is the original Imperial Palace. It was from here that the Emperors of Japan ruled the country for eleven centuries. It burnt down in the 1850s and was moved to Tokyo in 1868 when the capital moved from Kyoto.
