A very attractive map of the south-eastern United States, Mexico, Central America, West Indies and the northern part of South America. It is derived from Henry Popple’s important map of the region published in 1733. The British colonies in North America are confined to the east of the Appalachian Mountains with France in control of Louisiana. Numerous forts and Indian territories are located. Typical of Bowen’s work is the presence of a number of legends detailing the history of the region. The trade winds and sea routes are marked throughout particularly singled out is the course of the Spanish gold fleet. The title cartouche is adorned with Native Americans. From ‘A Complete System of Geography’ by Emanuel Bowen. Phillips 603 no. 68; Sellers & Van Ee #1682; Shirley ‘Atlases in the British Library’ T.Bow 2a no. 68.
