A fine small map published to display the main territory under conflict in the French and Indian War during the first year of the war. The map shows Lake Champlain including Forts Ticonderoga and Frederick, in the upper right and extends eastwards to Lake Erie. The key river route of the Mohawk River and waterways leading to Lake Ontario are also shown in detail as is the Hudson River valley. The map extends eastward to take in parts of western New England and also depicts northern New Jersey, and northeastern Pennsylvania. Indian lands are noted, as are roads and Trading Paths. An inset contains a plan of Fort Frederick at Crown Point. This important French fort was captured by the British in the previous year 1755. An interesting legends records that much of Pennsylvania is not settled and contains ‘Endless Mountains’. A decorative cartouche lower left finishes off the map with a compass rose above. Jolly, D. C. ‘British Periodical Maps’ LOND 109; Sellers & Van Ee 1038.
