An extremely rare Spanish atlas of her possessions in the Americas. Only four examples are recorded at auction on the Rare Book Hub since 1964. Lopez (1730-1802) spent his early years in Paris [1752 to 1760] as a pupil of the great French cartographer Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon d’Anville. In 1760 was called back to Spain and became royal geographer to King Charles III. He was tasked with the mapping of Spain, a project which took up the remainder of his life.

This little atlas contains 38 maps and plans which include two relating to the present day United States. One illustrates New Mexico whilst the other depicts Florida and the southeast.
