An attractive little map of the British Isles from a rare atlas by Hendrick de Leth entitled ‘Nouvel Atlas Geographique’. A later edition was published by S. J. Baalde in 1770. Little is known about Hendrick de Leth (1703-66). His father is believed to be Andries de Leth (c.1662-1731) continued the business of Nicolas Visscher on the death of his widow Elizabeth Visscher in 1726. Father and son worked together from about 1730. He is also well known for collaborating with Leonard Schenk and for his production of topographical works. Provenance: Doreen Green 1994; private English collection. Koeman (1967-70) Le H 1 no. 11; not in Shirley (1988); Shirley (2004) T.Leth 1a; Tooley’s Dictionary (1999-2004).
