Karl Ludwig de Launay produced this map for inclusion in a rare German book with maps entitled ‘Der seinen zu Erziehen habenden Jungen Cavalier in der Profan- und Kirchen-Historie, so wohl als in der Geographie …’, published in 1738. There is no entry in Tooley’s Dictionary of Mapmakers for him and no listing of the map in Shirley’s Maps of the British Isles. There are believed to be two known states of this map, this appears to be the first. Provenance: Doreen Green 2001; private English collection.
