Several world maps were found in Dutch bibles during the second half of the seventeenth century. Many were derived from this one by Nicolaas Visscher first published in 1657. A double hemisphere world map with smaller astronomical diagrams at centre top and bottom. Visscher’s name appears at the end of the running title above. California is still represented as a peninsula but the northern shore of New Holland or Australia is omitted despite Tasman’s second voyage of 1644. Nearby are two celestial hemispheres. Schilder (1976) no. 77; Shirley (1993) no. 401.
