A rare map of the Arctic Regions of North America, drawn by Jehoshaphat Aspin and published by John Harris in London. It is a fascinating insight into knowledge of the region following John Franklin’s second expedition but prior to the Lost Franklin expedition. It illustrates the results of the various Sir William Parry expeditions in the 1820s. It illustrates the region from the southern tip of Greenland westwards to the mouth of the Mackenzie River. Melville Island is clearly shown, and a rather sketchy Baffin Island is named Prince William’s Land. The west coast of North America is shown at the Queen Charlotte Islands. The Mackenzie Mountains are here named the Rocky Mountains. Numerous Indian tribes are named. Numerous forts are named including Augustus, Enterprise, George, Hope, Moose, Norman, Peace River, Resolution, and Simpson. The time as compared with to Greenwich is shown below the scale of Longitude. Provenance: Doreen Green 2003.
