John William Norie, a noted mathematician and hydrographer, took over the famous nautical chart firm of William Heather in 1812. A nice detailed chart of the entire west coast of Sumatra or Indonesia with the region of BANDA ACEH lower right, the scene of the devastating tsunami which struck the region on 26 December 2004. It includes numerous insets of bays and harbours. The chart has been found in an example of the ‘Country Trade, or Free Mariner’s Pilot’ for 1833 in the National Maritime Museum. Sanderson NMM no. 346 no. 91.
