The Reverend Daniel Beaufort was a member of the Royal Irish Academy and author of this map of the civil and ecclesiastical aspects of Ireland. Dedicated to his majesty George III it was sold by William Faden in London and Dublin. Two years later Beaufort sold the plates to Faden for a reputed £150. The map went through a total of twelve states being last issued in 1862. This example is of the sixth state, the first by James Wyld successor to Faden. The map contains a very ornate title cartouche upper left with four cherubs examining the produce of Ireland and with a ship in the background. Bonar-Law 146 st. vi.
