A detailed plan of the original Imperial Palace in Kyoto before it burnt down in the 1850s. This was the residence for eleven centuries of Japan’s Emperors. It resides in the middle of the capital city of Kyoto before it was moved to Tokyo in 1868. Engelbert Kaempfer’s ‘History of Japan’ was originally written in German.
