A beautiful tourist book of Jersey with numerous illustrations. The first folds out to a large panorama entitled ‘General View of St. Aubin’s Bay & St. Heliers Harbour’ measuring 53 cms. in width. Pasted to the inside of the back cover is a double page map of the island, the verso of the left leaf bears a plan of the town of St. Heliers. Despite the fact that the cover states it was manufactured in Germany it is unlikely it was published there. The date is best determined by the presence of the railway line. In September 1870 the first leg of that railway, between St Helier and St Aubin, was opened amid great celebration.
