This curious collection of cards has been embellished at the time with a series of manuscript maps of the county. The text describes each county but nowhere does it appear to indicate that there may be maps present. This example was therefore embellished at the time by the owners hand. However, the box bears an ornate label entitled “Maps of the Counties of England. Price “. This may indicate a publisher or distributors involvement. No record could be found of this in Copac, a list of the contents of dozens of UK institutions. The publishers themselves were active through the period 1810-1825.
