A very decorative plate illustrating the region of Tunis and Algeria. A central descriptive panel is surrounded by 6 large vignettes top and bottom featuring views of Alger, Gigery [Jijel], Tripoli and Tunis. The sides are flanked by six further smaller images of the peoples and customs of the region. It was published in the sixth volume of the encyclopaedic atlas by Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684-1743) entitled ‘Atlas Historique ou Nouvelle Introduction a l’Histoire, a la Chronologie & a la Geographie’.
