This map of Tartary or northern Asia is accompanied by a large genealogy of Genghis Khan (1162-1227). The Mongol Empire which he founded became one of the largest in human history. The mapis flanked with historical notes. It was published in the fifth volume of the encyclopaedic atlas by Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684-1743) entitled ‘Atlas Historique ou Nouvelle Introduction a l’Histoire, a la Chronologie & a la Geographie’.
