This print marks the Dutch East India Company’s bombardment and capture of the town of Makasser, South Sulawesi, in Indonesia during June and July of 1660. It is engraved by C. Decker and is from Schouten’s ‘Ost-Indische Reise’ or travels into the East Indies published by Jacob van Meurs in 1676. Schouten (1638-1704) joined the Company as a surgeon on an expedition to the East Indies during 1658-1665. In 1660 he was present at the Dutch siege of Makassar. Howgego S66. Lipperheide Ld2.
