A fine rare French map of the Riviera with south at the top. It was published in Nicolas Tassin’s rare ‘Carte Generales de Toutes les Provinces de France’, in 1634. Tassin was an ‘inginieur-geographe’ to the King and soon after this work his plates were sold to Nicolas Berey. One of the more desirable maps in the atlas is this one displaying part of the Cote d’Azur. Lower right is the town of Cannes; the famous Croisette is entirely undeveloped with just one building present. The Cap de la Croix now forms the basis of the Cannes Harbour complex and Palm Beach. The bay to the left along the coast is the site of the present day Golfe Juan. Pastoureau (1984) Tassin II-33; Shirley (2004) T.Com 28a no. 66.
