It is beautifully engraved and bears many legends on sailing directions, history, and the native population. The trade winds and trading routes are noted with directional arrows. Topographical details particularly along the coastlines is extensive, with some features inland named also. The newly formed colony of Georgia is identified with the Cherokee territory marked to its west. With a decorative title cartouche and two compass roses. The map comes from John Harris’ ‘Navigantium atque Itinerantium Bibliotheca. Or, a Complete Collection of Voyages and Travels …’, 1744-48. Shirley ‘Atlases in the British Library’ G.Harr 1a no. 17.
