This map was published in Samuel Augustus Mitchell’s ‘New General Atlas’ first issued in 1860. There is evidence to suggest that Mitchell wasn’t in fact either a cartographer or engraver, his role is more that of an editor. The chief cartographer and engraver of Mitchell’s publications is James H Young. This is an example of the plan of St. Louis dated 1882. Baskes 63.
