This map was published in Samuel Augustus Mitchell’s ‘New General Atlas’ first issued in 1860. There is evidence to suggest that Mitchell wasn’t in fact either a cartographer or engraver, his role is more that of an editor. The chief cartographer and engraver of Mitchell’s publications is James H Young. This map was replaced with this version in 1867 and is here dated 1874. Baskes 61.
