This map was first published in 1862 by Samuel Augustus Mitchell. There is evidence to suggest that Mitchell wasn’t in fact either a cartographer or engraver, his role is more that of an editor. The chief cartographer and engraver of Mitchell’s publications is James H Young. This one is by W. H. Gamble. This attractive map features the capitol city and Georgetown to its west. The whole is framed in a fine floral border. This example is updated to 1879.
